Choral Evensong
St. Christopher’s offers a traditional Choral Evensong about four times annually. This service draws upon the vast wealth of music and liturgy associated with the Anglican cathedral tradition. All are welcome to attend this lovely service.
Based on the services held daily in the medieval church, Choral Evensong as arranged in the Book of Common Prayer of the Anglican Church has been sung regularly since the sixteenth century. At the heart of Evensong is a pattern of response. We respond to the Hebrew Scriptures—the text of promise—with the Magnificat, Mary’s response to God’s promise. We respond to the Greek scriptures—the book of fulfillment—with the Nunc Dimittis, Simeon’s response to seeing God’s promise fulfilled.
