The Rector Search Committee

The Search Committee would like to thank you for your responses to our recent survey. You have given us a very complete understanding of our congregation. We are diligently working on the Parish Profile and at this point do not see the need for any focus groups. Should our needs change, we will communicate with you about our needs and seek volunteers to join any group that may be needed. On behalf of the Search Committee, I thank you for your support. ~ Win McCausland

A Building Report

What is going on with our building? You may have noticed some holes in the walls or furnishings being moving around in the Sanctuary and the Office area. You may know that several of our air-conditioning systems and one furnace have failed after 25 years of hard service and the Facilities Team is working with Engineers and Contractors to not just repair, but to modernize and improve the overall heating and cooling systems.

Moving forward, St. Christopher’s is acting responsibly by replacing the deteriorated fossil fueled equipment with Modern Heat Pumps that make better use of our Solar Panels that generate electricity. New heat pumps are substantially more efficient than the types available 25 years ago and this, in all, reduces our carbon footprint.

The Office area is getting expanded ductwork to distribute heat from a new Heat Pump system that replaces air conditioning systems that failed a year or two ago. We have been limping along as the engineering company was redesigning a new system. Comfort problems will be resolved in the Library, Rector’s office and Administrators office. The remaining office area will be completely served by a new system installed in the storage area adjacent to the multi-purpose room. Heating controls will be computer controlled by the building manager making the many required adjustments much simpler. To that end, some wallboard is being removed and in other areas, ducts and pipes will be added that will be encased in new wallboard.

The Sanctuary will get new supply registers in the ceiling that will improve efficiency of that system and the ceiling fans are being replaced with modern smaller ducted air distributors to move hot air stratified at the ceiling to the seating area. This will be much better for our Dobson Pipe Organ, which often suffers in the winter from having the room hot at the top while being moderate at floor level.

We know this will have some disruptions over the next two months as the work commences and the Facilities Team and Building Manager will do everything possible to allow all the normal activities of the parish to continue as before. Please let our Building Manager, Ali Crockett, know of any concerns or problems and she will have the responsible Project Manager contact you. Thank you for your patience, we know the results will be appreciated by all.

News from the Pastoral Associate

Pastoral Associate Judith Felton will be taking a sabbatical for the month of April. To be sure that Judith can fully disengage from her work and rest and enjoy her family, please refrain from calling or texting Judith from April 1 to May 7. If you email her during this time, please be aware that she will not begin responding to email until May 7 and may need a couple of weeks to fully catch up. During the month of April, if you or those you know have a pastoral concern, please contact clergy or a member of our Lay Pastoral Ministry Team. Our Lay Pastoral Ministers are: Sandy Arnold, Martha Crane, Anne Flash, Ali Crockett, Vi Fellman, Julie Fleischmann, Sue McFarlane, Jim Fulton, Susan Williams, Judy Cornwell, and Richard Johnston. Also available for support are members of the Pastoral Concerns Committee: Mary Bast, Mary Gulrich, Betty Martiner, Ann Ward, Jan McCausland, Sue McFarlane, Judy Cornwell, Joan Bagnell, Sue Sargent, and Jeff Arnold. In the meantime, let us offer abundant prayers of thanksgiving for all who support and sustain pastoral care at St. Christopher’s.

Coffee Hour

After the 10 a.m. Choral Eucharist, there is a short coffee hour in the lower narthex. It is a time for parishioners and guests to enjoy a friendly relaxed time to socialize and it provides an opportunity to meet new people welcoming newcomers and visitors—all while enjoying a cup of coffee and a light healthy food item. Prior coordinators and Ali have honed the set up to a very minimal amount of work. We are looking for volunteers to choose a Sunday to be the host. Coffee is provided by the church and preset—you only have to provide the treats. Please contact Leslie Collins at lesliecollins@verizon.net if you would like to host a fellowship. There is also a sign-up sheet on an easel in the narthex by the fellowship table. I would also love any thoughts or ideas on how to perk up a “strong” cup of fellowship. ~Leslie Collins, Fellowship Coordinator
