Hurricane Task Force

Volunteers report devastation, determination

in towns annihilated by Hurricane Katrina

Steve Keenan, Vi Fellman and Tim Weller left St. Christopher’s Dec. 11 to deliver a 16-foot truck filled with canned food and new blankets to a Lutheran- Episcopal relief agency in Long Beach, Miss. The agency, called Camp Coast Care, treats hundreds of Hurricane Katrina survivors each week.  Your generous donations made an immediate difference. Here are their pictures from the six-day 3,000-mile round trip.

Ali Crockett, head of the church's Hurricane Katrina Task Force, helps load the 16-foot truck with donations from parishioners and supporters.

Streets of Pass Christian, Miss., are still littered with debris from the storm.

Steve, Vi and Tim saw destruction throughout Mississippi, especially in Picayune, Long Beach and Pass Christian. Though more than 100 days since the storm hit, survivors have almost no means to clean up and rebuild.

Vi Fellman helps unload the truck at Camp Coast Care.

Once unloaded at  Camp Coast Care, where storm survivors and volunteers can find meals, medical aid and support, St. Christopher's donations filled 10 loading pallets. The recipients were delighted and grateful.
